Snow
White and The Seven Dwarfs, Bacon
Theatre, Cheltenham
FROM
the opening ballroom scene featuring
a strong chorus, dozens of dancers
and many talented ballerinas,
it was clear this would be a top
class panto. Promenade Productions
excel in putting on shows which
involve cast numbers more suited
to the West End stage.
The
Cheltenham company also boasts
many seasoned performers, from
chairman John Pannett, who played
man-mad Dame Dora Dumpling, to
Lionel Bassett as pompous Marmeduke
and Alan Howells as the huntsman.
The
audience joked with Muddles the
footman, played by Lisa Williams,
and booed every Queen Evilena,
played by Nicki Worgan, appeared
on stage.
Yet
it was the actors from the Young
Promenaders who really impressed.
The seven dwarfs were fantastic,
from the authoritative Doc, played
by Phoebe Lewis, to the charmingly
grumpy Rachel Jenkins and Bethany
Gilbert's sweet Dopey. It
was comedy gold for tiny Bethany
to wear the largest pair of prosthetic
ears I've ever seen.
"Apart
from the absence of soap stars
it was hard to believe this wasn't
a professional production. The
show runs until Saturday" |
